Here’s some intriguing news for fans of Helldivers 2: our brave players have successfully fended off another threat at the notorious Malevelon Creek. However, in a bitter twist, they’ve lost another world to the ever-hungry Meridian Singularity. But no worries, as their focus seems to be on whether Arrowhead, the game’s developer, will follow through with the community’s latest theory about a big upcoming update.
If you’re not keeping up with this saga, the victory at Malevelon Creek is significant. This location hasn’t appeared in the Galactic War since it became famous for a tough battle last year, even earning its own in-game memorial day. But, on a darker note, the black hole created by the Illuminate has now consumed its third planet, which is, unsurprisingly, a problem.
As we speak, players are eagerly awaiting new orders, having just digested the latest debriefing. One message celebrated their recent victory, honoring Malevelon Creek Memorial Day, while another struck a less cheerful note, mentioning that even though their efforts slowed the Singularity, it was too late to save the planet Ivis. Rest assured, the Illuminate will be held accountable for their misdeeds.
You might think there’d be a lot of mourning for Ivis, reminiscent of the reactions to losing Moradesh and Angel’s Venture. But the truth is, while there was some disappointment, many players seemed relatively indifferent. A user known as FisherandFries on the game’s subreddit expressed it best: “Losing the first two planets was devastating, but this plot’s been on the back burner for so long that losing another planet feels more like a minor inconvenience than a real tragedy.”
In essence, it seems the Meridian Singularity storyline is losing its grip on players, who are itching for some new material from Arrowhead to shake things up.
This anticipation has naturally led to speculation, with several fans banking on a community-driven theory that Arrowhead might release a major update tomorrow, April 8. While there’s no solid evidence supporting this, it’s fueled by the calendar being packed with Helldivers 2-related events.
Tuesday, Arrowhead’s usual day for patches or hotfixes, coincides with the BAFTA Games awards, where Helldivers 2 has received nominations. It’s also the launching day for the crowdfunding campaign of the official HD2 board game.
Will Arrowhead surprise us with new content? Only time will tell. Meanwhile, are you growing weary of battling the Illuminate death ball? Let us know your thoughts!
