Valve has exciting news for Steam Deck fans: they’re launching the handheld console in a sleek new white variant soon. However, this stylish update comes with a slight increase in price.
Starting November 18, at 6 p.m. EST / 3 p.m. PST, the Steam Deck OLED: Limited Edition White will be available across regions where the console is already sold. Australian gamers can look forward to its debut at 10 a.m. AEST on November 19, aligning with Steam Deck’s official launch in the country.
For those who already own a Steam Deck, the white version doesn’t offer any upgrades in terms of performance or specs. It mirrors the current Steam Deck OLED 1TB model, sporting a 1280 x 800 HDR OLED screen, a refresh rate of up to 90Hz, and delivers between three to twelve hours of gaming on a single charge. The real distinction lies in its look: a chic white and grey color scheme. Additionally, Valve includes a matching white carry case and a microfiber cloth for maintenance.
There’s a minor price bump for this unique colorway: the standard black 1TB Steam Deck costs $649, while the Limited Edition White is priced at $679, making it $30 more for the aesthetic upgrade.
If you’re considering adding this white model to your collection, prepare to act quickly. Valve is only releasing this edition in limited numbers, evenly distributed across regions, and each Steam account is restricted to just one purchase. Once they’ve sold out, Valve won’t restock this particular version.
Valve emphasized, "This is a limited edition release, and we won’t be making more of this design. When they’re gone, they’re gone."
Getting your hands on this stylish console isn’t as easy as placing a typical online order. The white Steam Deck will be purchasable through the Steam store—except in some Asian regions where it will be available via Komodo. However, you need to have already spent at least $5 in the Steam store before this month to even be eligible. This measure is in place to prevent spam and malicious accounts from making purchases.
Moreover, your Steam account must be in "good standing," meaning Valve is keen on avoiding selling consoles to those who use cheat programs. To verify your Valve Anti-Cheat System (VAC) status, open the Steam app on your computer, navigate to "Steam," choose "Settings," and click the "Learn More" button next to "VAC status." This will confirm if your account passes the check.
These purchasing restrictions also apply to the regular black Steam Deck, though players have had ample opportunity to qualify as unlimited users by now. Unlike the white version, the black Steam Deck isn’t a limited edition, so even if you miss out this month, you’ll still have chances to buy it later.
