Studio Fizbin, the creative minds behind the game Reignbreaker, is set to close its doors later this month. This news came to light through an announcement on their website, as first noticed by Game Developer, revealing that the studio will be closing down after the release of Reignbreaker on March 18th. In the statement, founder and CEO Alexander Pieper explained that the decision was heavily influenced by Thunderful’s choice to “significantly cut back on internal development.”
“The gaming industry is facing challenging times, and like many other remarkable studios, we’ve felt the impact,” Pieper expressed. He went on to describe how Thunderful, their parent company, decided back in November 2024 to make substantial cuts to their in-house development, a move communicated by Thunderful’s CEO Martin in the latest quarterly report, which also affected Studio Fizbin. Since that announcement, Studio Fizbin has been examining various possibilities to pursue once Reignbreaker was completed. Unfortunately, none of these potential projects came to fruition, leaving the studio with no choice but to make this tough call.
“We genuinely appreciate each and every one of our fans—for your purchases, fan art, comments, reviews, passion, and your seemingly endless support,” Pieper continued. He also extended gratitude to their business partners, including Medienboard, the MfG, Creative Europe, and the federal funding partners for their unwavering support.
In his closing remarks, Pieper shared, “Our deepest thanks go out to our team—those with us until the end and those who have ventured onto new paths. The essence of Fizbin and its games lies within its talented team members, and each of you has formed an unforgettable part of this journey, mastering the art of one of the world’s toughest feats: creating video games.”
