ILM and Lucasfilm have unveiled their plans to create another immersive Star Wars adventure, introducing us to Star Wars: Beyond Victory – A Mixed Reality Playset.
This new experience is set to roll out exclusively for Meta’s Quest 3 and 3S and will be woven into the timeline of the Han Solo prequel, Solo: A Star Wars Story, from 2018. You can almost feel the anticipation building as fans await more details.
Though details are still emerging, it looks like we might get to dive into the adrenaline-fueled world of podracing. ILM teases that players will have the chance to meet podracer Volo Bolus and team up with the iconic Sebulba, promising a thrilling mixed reality experience that combines heart-pounding excitement with roaring engines.
The term ‘Playset’ hints at the potential for a collection of mixed reality mini-games, though ILM remains tight-lipped beyond the tidbits they’ve already released. It’s all part of their methodical strategy: releasing information piece by piece, from characters to unique game elements, keeping fans eagerly guessing as they work towards the game’s launch. As of now, we’re still waiting on a specific release date or any trailers.
However, more details are expected to surface soon. Meta has revealed that attendees at the Star Wars Celebration 2025 in Tokyo, Japan, scheduled from April 18-20, will have their first chance to try out the game. The event will feature over a dozen demo stations where fans can also experience demo versions of previous VR hits like Vader Immortal and Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge.
So, why venture into mixed reality? According to Jose Perez III, the Director of Star Wars: Beyond Victory, mixed reality offers a unique blend of immersion, allowing them to transport the iconic Star Wars universe directly into players’ homes in an unprecedented way.
It certainly helps that Meta is likely supporting the development of this mixed reality venture, just as they have previously supported ILM’s Star Wars VR projects.
