People Can Fly, the developers behind hits like Outriders and Gears of War: Judgment, have teamed up with Sony Interactive Entertainment to work on an exciting new venture, temporarily known as “Project Delta.” Announced by the companies today, the details of this collaboration are still shrouded in mystery. Nonetheless, PlayStation enthusiasts are buzzing with speculation, with many believing it might herald the return of a beloved franchise: SOCOM.
A keen observer on the PS5 subreddit has highlighted that this partnership will see People Can Fly creating a new game under one of Sony’s intellectual properties. Given the developer’s reputation for crafting compelling shooter experiences, this narrows down the possibilities. SOCOM seems to be leading the speculation, yet fans are also tossing names like Killzone, Resistance, and Warhawk into the ring.
“It’s probably going to be either Socom or Killzone since their forte is shooters,” one Reddit user pointed out in the thread, while another added, “They could also be working on Resistance, which seems like a solid guess.”
Another enthusiast chimed in, “Warhawk would be amazing to see again. It had the potential to be the next big thing like Fortnite, but Sony didn’t seize the moment back then.”
Passionately, another commenter declared, “Fingers crossed for a Resistance revival!”
While such discussions are purely speculative for now, there’s even an entertaining suggestion of a new third-person shooter version of Knack. Realistically, though, we might be waiting a few years before the true identity of “Project Delta” is revealed.
For those unfamiliar, SOCOM was a tactical third-person shooter series with titles released across PS2, PS3, and PSP platforms. The series last saw the light of day with SOCOM 4: U.S. Navy SEALs back in 2011. Reception at the time was mixed, with Metacritic reflecting an average score of 67 from 64 critic reviews. Since then, it has remained quietly in the gaming archives, waiting for a possible resurgence.
