Sony Interactive Entertainment and Velan Studios have teamed up to bring us a fresh gaming experience with Midnight Murder Club, now available in Early Access on the PlayStation 5. If you’ve been eager to know more about it, our preview of Midnight Murder Club has you covered!
Picture this: you’re thrust into the secretive ranks of the Midnight Murder Club, an elite society where members are equipped with just a gun and a flashlight before they’re sent into a shadowy mansion. Masks hide everyone’s identities as you navigate the darkness, making each bullet count. Aim carefully, or your shots could give away your position! The game is versatile, allowing you to play online with global gamers, challenge friends in private matches, or mix it up with bots in some modes.
Last year, I had the chance to dive into Blindside, another intriguing first-person shooter, also in Early Access on Sony’s platform. That game challenges players with limited visibility, relying on weapons or a sonar-like skill to detect nearby foes. Now here we are, in 2025, with Midnight Murder Club stepping onto the stage. While Blindfire tempts players with the thrills of fame and fortune, Midnight Murder Club offers an alluring status symbol. With the Midnight Murder Club Guest Pass Edition, you can invite up to five friends to join your adventure at no extra cost on the PlayStation 5.
Playing from a first-person perspective, you control your character’s movement using the left analog stick while aiming with the right. Need a speed boost? Just press the left stick in to sprint. Looking to crouch? The right stick’s got you covered. Switch your flashlight on and off with the L2 button to illuminate your path, but remember, the light also reveals your whereabouts to others!
When it’s time to engage, fire your weapon with the R2 button. If you’re close enough, try knifing an opponent with the R1 button. The Square button is your interaction hub, perfect for opening doors or activating slot-like machines that yield items, which the game calls toys. Found an item? Put it to good use by pressing the L1 button. These toys range from molotov cocktails and machine guns to helpful tools that briefly reveal all players’ positions, or even a bulletproof vest for extra protection.
Despite being in Early Access, Midnight Murder Club doesn’t skimp on trophy support. It boasts a complete list, including a coveted Platinum trophy. The trophy collection includes 16 Bronze, 8 Silver, and 6 Gold. To earn that ultimate prize, you’ll need to accomplish tasks like shooting with your flashlight off, defeating an enemy while they’re trying to open a safe or toy chest, taking down foes during revives, and even getting the first kill in a Free For All match. Your journey will also see you defeating 500 opponents, reviving 100 teammates, knifing 50 enemies, and dying 100 times, among other challenges.
Midnight Murder Club’s Early Access is now here on PlayStation 5, sporting a cool $19.99 price tag. The experience invites you to conceal your identity behind a mask and make each shot count within its mysterious mansion. Plus, with the Midnight Murder Club Guest Pass Edition, join a friend’s session who owns the Early Access version for extra fun.
