Phasmophobia has been a sensation in the world of co-op ghost hunting games, especially on Twitch since around 2020. Kinetic Games, the developers behind this eerie adventure, recently announced that they’ve sold over 22 million copies to date. For 2025, they’re gearing up for an exciting development roadmap, including a fresh redesign of the game’s notably plain player character models. On Monday, they unveiled a news release filled with details about the upcoming updates set for later in the year.
First on the list for Phasmophobia’s updates is the Chronicle update, previously teased in a developer blog. This update promises to spice up the way players collect evidence. Spectral temperature shifts and mysterious sounds will now be documented like never before. The Chronicle update will retire the old Photos tab, replacing it with a new Media tab. This upgrade aims to be particularly useful during a chaotic haunting when your teammates might be screaming, arguing, or just losing their cool audibly.
The developers also hinted at more intricate data collection methods. The inaugural capture of any type of media will be tagged as Unique, rewarding players handsomely at the end of each contract. However, snapping duplicate media won’t be as rewarding, encouraging ghost hunters to use various tools to build a diverse collection of paranormal evidence.
Following the Chronicle update, we’ll see a Player Character Overhaul. At present, players have a limited selection of avatars, each lacking significant personality. The roadmap teases new outfits, hinting at customizable appearances where players can mix and match shirts between contracts. This would be a refreshing break from the current lineup of basic, forgettable attire like the plain button-down shirts we’re all too familiar with.
Later this year, Kinetic also plans to introduce a brand-new map, described as a “small” addition akin to the existing houses in the game. They’re making improvements to existing maps too, with major updates scheduled for the Bleasdale and Grafton Farmhouses. These reworks will offer new layouts and additional rooms to explore, giving ghosts fresh spots to haunt. Plus, fans can look forward to festive updates for Easter and Halloween. There are even hints about 2026 features, including something intriguingly named “Horror 2.0” which definitely grabs my attention.
