NVIDIA enthusiasts holding out for the RTX 5090 and 5080 graphics cards from Overclockers UK might find themselves in for a bit of a wait—think weeks, possibly even months.
NVIDIA RTX 5090 and 5080: Expect Delays
The launch of NVIDIA’s RTX 50 series has been anything but smooth, quickly descending into chaos. It could be described as a ‘paper launch’ at best. Some stores didn’t receive a single RTX 5090, let alone enough to satisfy demand, and if they did, stock vanished in mere minutes once the sales embargo lifted. The situation wasn’t much better for the RTX 5080; despite slightly better availability, it too disappeared quickly, likely due to offering less of a performance boost than hoped.
If you’re anticipating snagging one of these cards, brace yourself for a significant wait. Overclockers UK has stopped taking pre-orders for both models due to their current out-of-stock status. So, when might you expect these elusive GPUs to reappear?
According to Overclockers UK, don’t hold your breath for the RTX 5090 before at least 3 weeks—though it could stretch to 16 weeks. The RTX 5080 has a slightly shorter wait time, at 2 to 6 weeks. If the worst-case scenario unfolds for the RTX 5090, eager buyers might not see it in stock until almost midway through 2025—around May. By then, we expect both the RTX 5070 Ti and RTX 5070 to have already launched, with release dates slated for February 20th and March, respectively.
Overclockers UK provided an update on January 31, 2025:
- RTX 5090: 3-16 weeks before restocking
- RTX 5080: 2-6 weeks before restocking
Though the RTX 5080 might return as soon as a month from now, initial global stock still didn’t meet demand despite seemingly better availability. Its limited generational performance boost can’t compete with the RTX 5090, but the similar pricing to the RTX 4080 Super had buyers lining up nonetheless.
The frenzy saw potential customers camping outside stores, and some retailers even resorted to handing out lottery tickets just to give people a chance to spend their hard-earned cash on these GPUs. If you placed an order with Overclockers UK but didn’t get a confirmation, you might find yourself stuck in the pre-order limbo.
Given this mess, Overclockers UK isn’t taking any more pre-orders at the moment. As for when these GPUs will be restocked with other retailers globally? That’s still up in the air, so patience will be your best strategy for now.
