Samsung’s pursuit of NVIDIA as an HBM customer is still very much alive, with new reports indicating progress on this exciting front.
NVIDIA’s CEO Jensen Huang Enthusiastically Discusses Team Green’s Expedited Efforts to Kickstart Samsung’s HBM Supply for AI Chips
You might recall that Samsung has been facing setbacks in its HBM business, struggling to gain traction in mainstream AI markets. Recently, we highlighted how Samsung hasn’t yet secured NVIDIA as a client, which hit them financially and led many to speculate that Samsung’s ambitions with NVIDIA might be falling apart.
However, according to a Bloomberg report, NVIDIA’s CEO revealed some promising news. They’re actively collaborating with Samsung to approve their "AI memory" chips, working diligently to jumpstart their HBM collaboration. Jensen Huang shared this during an interview at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, emphasizing the urgency of the matter. With booming demand, NVIDIA is eager to wrap up negotiations swiftly, focusing on acquiring 8-Hi and 12-Hi HBM3E from Samsung.
It’s a pivotal time for Samsung. Securing these orders from NVIDIA could dramatically boost their position in the AI market, especially given the fierce competition with SK hynix. A successful partnership would likely encourage investors to take a more optimistic view of Samsung’s prospects. Moreover, being a part of NVIDIA’s supply chain paves the way for more opportunities. With Samsung’s own semiconductor capabilities, both companies could potentially gain from this collaboration.
It remains to be seen if Samsung can gain NVIDIA’s confidence as the process unfolds. Considering the lengthy qualification procedures, it’s likely that Team Green will eventually bring Samsung on board as a supplier.
