In light of numerous reports about GeForce RTX 5090 GPUs mysteriously failing, NVIDIA has decided to look into this concerning issue.
NVIDIA Investigates Bricked RTX 5090 and RTX 5090D Reports
Over the past few days, complaints have been flooding in about malfunctioning RTX 5090 GPUs and their Chinese counterpart, the RTX 5090D. With no definitive solution available, users have been trying different troubleshooting techniques, mostly to no avail.
A few users have managed to temporarily alleviate the problem using unconventional methods, but the majority are still grappling with unresponsive GPUs. Recognizing the widespread nature of this problem, NVIDIA has finally addressed the issue. According to PC Gamer, a representative from NVIDIA stated:
"We are investigating the reported issues with the RTX 50 series."
That’s the extent of NVIDIA’s official communication so far, but it does indicate that they are aware and taking steps to address the problem. For those unfamiliar with the situation, our previous article gives a comprehensive rundown of the issue. In essence, a number of RTX 5090 and RTX 5090D GPUs have been failing to display anything on monitors—users are only greeted by a black screen following the driver update.
This occurrence appears across many reports, becoming more complicated as the issue persists even after reverting to prior driver versions—the GPU fails to be recognized by the computer. A handful of users have noted that even resetting the BIOS doesn’t help, leaving the GPU invisible in the Device Manager or BIOS.
While the exact cause remains uncertain, some speculate that it might be related to architectural or driver compatibility issues rather than a physical hardware problem. Until NVIDIA offers more insight, finding a permanent fix for the bricking problem affecting the RTX 5090 and 5090D seems elusive.
