Nintendo’s got everyone buzzing with the latest scoop announced via their brand-new Nintendo Today app, which they just unveiled yesterday. While it’s not the much-anticipated news about the Nintendo Switch 2—that’s slated for next week—it is, however, the official release date for the live-action Legend of Zelda film, set to hit theaters on March 26, 2027.
In just 24 hours, the Today app has delivered on its promise, as Shigeru Miyamoto excitingly emphasized, bringing significant Nintendo updates straight to fans (imagine an enthusiastic hand gesture here). Hats off to Nintendo for the quick turnaround—truly a gold star for efficiency!
Now, if you’re itching for more about the movie itself, you might want to temper your expectations. The app only gave us that tantalizing release date without any further details. So, for those counting down the days until the grand premiere, unless you’re keen on exploring all the other intriguing Nintendo tidbits, like that under-the-radar new console dropping this year, you might have to practice some patience.
On the bright side, this announcement will likely drive a hefty number of folks to download the Today app, eager to stay in the loop with all things Nintendo. With the promise of firsthand, round-the-clock updates, who could resist?
The live-action Zelda film originally broke cover back in 2023, causing jaws to drop, including that of our very own contributor Oisin Kuhnke. The surprise stemmed partly from the collaboration with Sony Pictures Entertainment, which is co-financing the project with Nintendo. Despite their shock, Kuhnke dutifully dug into the story, a testament to our dedication to delivering news even under extreme conditions, like someone taking a saw to our feet (figuratively speaking, of course).
Here’s a fun sidebar: Kuhnke could probably pick some winning lottery numbers. Last November, they predicted we’d not see the movie until at least “no sooner than 2027,” right after Nintendo mentioned the film would premiere in a year starting with 20 followed by two more digits.
So, what about you? Are you counting down the days to 2027 to catch this Zelda epic? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
