In a playful nod to a beloved South Park episode, Mizkif has brought the iconic show to life by recreating the famed World of Warcraft basement scene. This nostalgic homage marks the launch of the World of Warcraft Classic Anniversary Realms. Joined by some of his friends, Mizkif delved into the new WoW servers, all the while honoring that unforgettable South Park moment.
On November 11, World of Warcraft opened up new Classic realms to celebrate its impressive 20-year run. These enhanced mega-servers will explore the original adventures of Vanilla and The Burning Crusade, similar to their first 2004 rollout, and the classic run from 2019.
As part of the festivities, Mizkif and his fellow Twitch streamers, Simply, Bean, and Russel, made their grand entrance with an impeccable tribute to that South Park scene from “Make Love, Not Warcraft.” They even added a humorous twist with Cartman’s speech about grinding boars, albeit with a dash of adult humor. So viewers with younger ears might want to take caution!
The “Make Love, Not Warcraft” episode, first aired on October 4, 2006, is fondly remembered as one of South Park’s standout episodes. It featured some of the first-ever machinima footage that got an Emmy nod. Almost two decades later, this episode remains a fan favorite and often makes its way into cosplay contests and online conversations. Even Hearthstone paid tribute by adding the Sword of a Thousand Truths thanks to the United in Stormwind set when you let seven Elwynn Boars meet their end.
Mizkif’s own Fresh run in WoW Classic has encountered a few bumps. Playing on Hardcore mode with his guild OnlyFangs, he’s already seen two of his characters fall within just the first day. But fear not—his third character has ventured into the Wailing Caverns, and hope is still alive for him.
It wasn’t just Mizkif throwing a grand celebration. Fellow OTK member Esfand got in on the action by transforming into his character—a Troll Shaman—complete with vibrant blue body paint, a red wig, and even prosthetics. The efforts put forth by these streamers ensured that the launch of WoW’s 20th Anniversary Realms was nothing short of memorable.
World of Warcraft’s enduring legacy as an MMORPG sensation is undeniable. As one of the most successful franchises in history, it’s earned its place as the undisputed champion of MMORPGs, captivating players worldwide since its debut on November 23, 2004. With features like Unreal Engine support and cross-platform play, WoW remains a prominent figure in gaming circles today.
