When I’m diving into hero shooters, I usually gravitate towards the characters with the coolest designs. For instance, I don’t choose Zenyatta in Overwatch because I’m eager to heal; it’s all about his sleek look. As I geared up for Marvel Rivals, I intended to stick to the same strategy. From the get-go, NetEase’s take on Magneto and Venom really caught my attention, so naturally, they were at the top of my list. However, the latest developer diary before the game’s release has completely shifted my approach. With the introduction of hero pick and win rates, picking my favorites has become much simpler.
With Marvel Rivals set to launch soon, it’s crunch time for this multiplayer adventure. NetEase Games has been honing this Overwatch competitor for quite some time, and while the recognizable Marvel characters add a lot of allure, that alone won’t guarantee the game’s longevity. Therefore, Marvel Rivals is taking a unique approach by having all heroes available for free from day one, featuring destructible environments, and more.
These aren’t the only exciting features Marvel Rivals is bringing to the table. A fresh developer video reveals another intriguing aspect: official stats on hero pick and win rates among various other features.
“We’ve heard your requests for detailed hero data loud and clear. We’re gearing up to share accurate game stats for all our playable heroes on our official website at launch, providing a comprehensive dossier for everyone to explore,” shares Zhiyong Feng, Marvel Rivals’ lead combat designer.
“We’re planning to unveil critical combat data, including win rates and pick rates, but it’ll take some time. Rest assured, post-launch, we’ll carefully collect the combat data and present these vital stats at the appropriate moment.”
Pick rates will give insights into how often a hero is chosen by players and in what scenarios, while win rates will highlight how frequently the hero lands on the winning side.
Feng also reveals that Marvel Rivals’ full launch will introduce even more maps, with the first season unveiling four new ones within the initial month. We can expect two maps set in the interstellar realm of Wakanda called Birnin T’Challa and Hall of Djalia, along with the Hydra Charteris Base and the Klyntar symbiotic map. Each location will feature dynamic elements that alter navigation and strategy on the fly, ensuring every match feels fresh.
We also got a peek into NetEase’s anti-cheat strategies accompanying Marvel Rivals’ launch, showing that some beta players have already faced penalties. Feng mentions that cheating occurred in less than one percent of games, highlighting that the team has made “significant strides” in their detection efforts.
As we eagerly await the hero shooter’s launch, we’re keeping tabs on all the Marvel Rivals characters you’ll want to know about and looking forward to when Marvel Rivals Season 1 will make its debut.
