Recently, the internet has been buzzing with some tantalizing leaks about the much-anticipated Nintendo Switch 2’s final design. Among these intriguing bits of information, Dbrand made waves with its unexpected revelation—a stunning 3D render of what appears to be the Nintendo Switch 2, complete with their redesigned version of the Dbrand Killswitch carrying case, originally intended for handheld PCs but now tailored for the next-gen console. Speaking to The Verge, Dbrand’s CEO, Adam Ijaz, confirmed that these renders were based on the actual dimensions of the Switch 2. According to their precise 3D scans, the device measures around 270mm in width with the Joy-Cons attached, 200mm without, stands 116mm tall, and is 14mm thick.
What makes this supposed Nintendo Switch 2 stand out includes a sizeable 8-inch display—an upgrade from the 7.2-inch screen on the Switch OLED and 6.2-inch on the original Switch. It’s got an intriguing addition of a new “C” button on the right Joy-Con, possibly for capture functions, while the Joy-Con controllers themselves feature a more ergonomic curve and are magnetically detachable. Plus, it boasts both top and bottom USB-C ports and a wide, U-shaped kickstand similar to the improved one from the Switch OLED.
All signs suggest that we might not be far off from a possible early 2025 launch for this new gaming gadget. However, it seems the Switch 2 might skip the fancy OLED technology, opting instead for an 8-inch, 1080p IPS LCD screen, which will hopefully provide much-needed picture clarity compared to the prior LCD models.
As for the new Killswitch case by Dbrand, designed specifically for the Switch 2, it’s important to note that it doesn’t include the typical kickstand or full-body casings seen in previous versions, like those made for the Steam Deck. Instead, it cleverly separates into parts to accommodate the removable Joy-Cons, with a striking teal bungee cord holding it all together. With Dbrand’s established reputation for crafting durable and sleek cases for mobile and handheld devices, it’s safe to say this new design is likely to be well-received.
But for those eager to see the new Nintendo Switch 2 in its purest form, stay patient. While we don’t have the full picture just yet, Dbrand’s leaked specs seem to align with a 3D-printed mock-up recently showcased by the YouTube channel SwitchUp. It provides a sneak peek into what the final unit might look and feel like.
The big leak from Dbrand, who interestingly enough might not be legally bound to secrecy, hints that an official announcement for the Nintendo Switch 2 is right around the corner. Previous whispers suggested a release before the end of 2024, but with Nintendo aiming to share official details by March 2025, the countdown is on. As that deadline nears, accessory companies like Dbrand are gearing up for what’s sure to be Nintendo’s next big hit in the world of handheld gaming.
