Jim Carrey has just stepped back into the spotlight as the quirky villain Dr. Robotnik in Sonic 3. He’s already hinted that he might be willing to return for more Sonic adventures down the line, like a Sonic 4, as long as the ideas pitched to him spark his interest and sound enjoyable.
This revelation follows Carrey’s unexpected return from retirement for Sonic 3. At a red carpet event, he humorously confessed he came back because he had “bought a lot of stuff and I need the money, frankly.” Previously, he joked that only a script “written in gold ink” and deemed crucial for audiences would tempt him out of retirement.
In a chat with the Japanese YouTube channel Cinema Today, Carrey addressed the chance of appearing in future Sonic films. He shared, “I’m definitely open. If they present me with an idea that sounds fun, I’ll do it. I’m not tied down to anything unless it truly interests me.”
He expressed his fondness for the team behind the movies and the enthusiastic fans, noting, “There’s a lot of great energy around these films. The fans are super helpful, often throwing in suggestions. It feels like we’re all making this movie together.”
At the start of the interview, Carrey humorously mentioned that he “power-rests between projects,” complementing his comment with a funny face. It’s not quite up to the legendary Grinch expression – my reliable standard for funny faces – but it’s a commendable 8 out of 10, complete with a delightful sound effect.
On the bright side, these humorous antics provide a break from diving into Carrey’s past, such as his outspoken views on vaccines or his foray into NFTs.
In other Sonic news, writers Pat Casey and Josh Miller recently chatted about their wish list of other games they’d love to adapt in the future.
