The Binary Mill, an indie XR studio, recently revealed that their space-themed mining adventure, Into Black (2024), will soon be making its debut on PSVR 2. Previously exclusive to the Quest platform, this move will bring its captivating Deep Rock Galactic-inspired action to a broader audience.
Originally launched on Quest last October, Into Black offers both single-player and four-player co-op modes. Players dive into scavenging missions, upgrade their equipment, and focus on ship repairs. The journey spans over 20 levels and multiple unique biomes, where you battle various enemies to gather necessary parts to escape the hazardous alien planet.
With the release of the PSVR 2 version, players will also experience the new ‘Singularity’ mode—an innovative PvPvE mode where up to 11 players compete online. As the studio puts it, "Forge uneasy alliances while maneuvering through an ever-shrinking maze. Collect loot cautiously, as excessive greed might trap you permanently."
Importantly, Into Black is undergoing significant enhancements for its PSVR 2 launch. Expect remastered environments, improved lighting with dynamic effects, HDR, and eye-tracked foveated rendering. The game also benefits from advanced haptics, thanks to the PS Sense’s adaptive triggers and the PSVR 2’s headset rumble feature.
While we haven’t heard if cross-play with Quest will be possible, we’ve reached out to the studio for further details. Additionally, we’re eagerly waiting for a comprehensive trailer to showcase all the PSVR 2 enhancements in action. Although only a few images and gifs have been released so far, they hint at an exciting experience for PSVR 2 players.
As for the precise release date, we’re still in the dark, but The Binary Mill assures us it’s coming "soon." Meanwhile, you can add Into Black to your wishlist over on the PlayStation Store for PSVR 2 to be ready when it officially lands.
