Intel has at last acknowledged the performance dip issue plaguing the Arc GPUs and is currently conducting an investigation to remedy this problem with older CPUs.
## Intel Tackles Arc GPU Performance Problems with Previous-Gen Ryzen and Intel Core CPUs
When Intel first introduced the Arc B580 and B570 GPUs, they seemed promising, offering more VRAM than some rivals. However, they failed to make a significant impact in performance charts. A key reason for the underwhelming reception of the Battlemage GPUs was poor optimization.
This isn’t just about Intel’s GPU drivers; it’s an underlying issue that has prevented the Arc Battlemage GPUs from matching the performance of competitors. Many tech enthusiasts might recall that Hardware Unboxed highlighted these performance shortcomings of the Arc B580 when used with older processors like the Ryzen 2000 series and 9th-gen Intel Core processors.
For quite some time, Intel seemed oblivious or unresponsive to these concerns. Finally, the company addressed these issues on their forums. Here’s the complete statement from Intel:
> “Thank you for your patience. We are aware of reports of performance sensitivity in some games when paired with older generation processors. We have increased our platform coverage to include more configurations in our validation process, and we are continuing to investigate optimizations.”
Reading between the lines, it appears that while Intel was aware of these challenges, it hadn’t prioritized optimizations earlier. Intel now promises to broaden its efforts to include more configurations. Yet, they haven’t pinned down when these updates will roll out.
The hardware itself stands toe-to-toe with previous-gen counterparts when tested on the latest releases paired with new Intel and AMD CPUs. Surprisingly, the same can’t be said for older Intel CPUs, where the performance drop is evident.
With forthcoming patches, Intel aims to stand shoulder to shoulder with AMD and NVIDIA GPUs. Nevertheless, this doesn’t automatically guarantee a foothold in the GPU market. The Arc Battlemage series is hard to find on shelves, largely sidelining Intel from the budget segment in the current GPU market competition.
