Hollow Knight: Silksong remains a reality, actively progressing through development, dispelling any conspiracy theories to the contrary. Matthew Griffin from Team Cherry provided clarity last Friday on X, stating, "Yes, the game is real, progressing, and will release."
Griffin’s reassurance responded to a user’s query after Hollow Knight speedrunner fireb0rn extinguished a growing theory amongst the community about an imminent release announcement. Dedicated fans believed they had decoded clues after developer William Pellen’s alternate X account swapped its profile picture and hinted at "something big." However, it turned out to be a false alarm.
Back to the daily routine for fans, anxiously awaiting any news about the eagerly anticipated sequel to the 2017 action-adventure title. Since Silksong’s 2019 announcement, fans have been on high alert for any hints of a release. So keen is the anticipation, it’s almost become a running joke. Every major game announcement leaves fans hoping for a surprising drop of Silksong news. Browsing the game’s subreddit feels akin to watching a scene from It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, where Charlie Day comically deciphers supposed patterns from a wall of pinned letters. Simply put, this game needs to launch soon, if only to redirect the community’s boundless energy.
Fingers crossed, the wait won’t stretch too much longer. We previously expected the release in 2023, only for it to be postponed to 2024—and we’re past that mark too. Still, Griffin’s update keeps hope alive. Anticipation might ramp up again this April with the first Nintendo Direct for the Switch 2. And if that doesn’t yield results, there’s always the Summer Games Fest to look forward to.
