Helldivers 2 has just introduced a brand-new Major Order, and whether you’re recovering from your last attempt or diving into the game on Steam after a long hiatus, it’s essential to take note of your latest mission—and what it might set in motion.
Previously, the last Major Order revived the Democracy Space Station to combat the Illuminate menace. Now, you’re heading back to the insect warfare front. Of course, if you’re a dedicated bugdiver, you’ve probably never really left the bug battles behind.
On the surface, the newest Major Order might seem routine. You’ll need to gather 22 million common samples from Erata Prime, 15 million rare samples from Gacrux, and secure Super Earth’s hold over Fenrir III within the four-day deadline.
What’s intriguing here is the purpose behind these tasks. You’ll be contributing to the development of technology aimed at tackling “The Gloom,” a mysterious spore cloud that’s blanketed several Terminid-controlled sectors. Surprisingly, its use might extend beyond merely necessitating fog lights for your ship.
Arrowhead’s full briefing teasingly hints, “Recent experimentation on Terminids using collected Gloom spores indicate that Gloom-induced mutations may dramatically increase Element 710 yield.” The results suggest potential yields could soar as high as ten times the standard amount.
“The implications of this result are monumental,” the briefing adds. “The Gloom might unlock a significant, untapped energy source. Its potential could expand beyond military or colony operations, ushering in new opportunities for trade and research sectors alongside further military and colonial advancements.”
So, could this mean Super Earth gains some exciting new resources beyond just the DSS? Or will it go awry, perhaps giving rise to tougher bugs, possibly results of Gloom mutation tests gone awry, or something equally outlandish?
Helldivers 2 tends to deliver surprises, so it’s likely a mix of both scenarios awaits. We’ll have to buckle up and watch the adventure unfold.
