Baldur’s Gate 3 didn’t just snag the title of game of the year for 2023; it also emerged as one of the finest RPGs and video games we’ve seen in recent times. Dive into the crafted world by Larian Studios without a single tweak, and you’re guaranteed a fantastic experience.
But where’s the adventure in sticking to the basics? Let’s be honest, it’s a lot more entertaining to customize your character to resemble a quirky Shrek, integrate Thomas the Tank Engine into your game, or radically alter the gameplay to suit your whims—or, at least, the whims of someone who thought just like you and created a mod for it.
Now, mods have made their way to consoles. Kudos to Larian Studios for pulling this off, though they aren’t actual wizards, and there are some boundaries to how much mod magic they can bring to consoles.
In a recent video about console mods, Aoife Wilson, a senior communications developer at Larian, shed some light on the constraints. The studio is encountering limits on how many mods a console save file can handle while still running Baldur’s Gate 3 smoothly.
Consequently, console players are capped at 100 mods per save file. This is something to keep an eye on, especially if you’re toggling between your PC and console with cross-save. Should your PC file be packed with more than 100 mods, it just won’t sync up with your console “for the time being,” as Larian points out.
For those crafting mods for both PC and console players, there’s a dedicated process you’ll need to navigate in order to submit your mod for consoles, Wilson explains.
