Sid Meier’s Civilization VII is about to take a leap into the virtual reality universe, with a special VR version set to become available exclusively for the Quest 3 and 3S, starting next week.
Brought to life by Playside Studios in collaboration with Meta, Sid Meier’s Civilization VII – VR will be hitting the Quest platform on April 10th. This version offers both solo gameplay and the thrilling experience of online multiplayer, where you can strategize against other Quest 3 users in real-time.
The core idea remains the same as in the PC and console versions: lead your chosen nation through the unfolding pages of history. Whether you prefer to forge alliances or compete against other world powers, the choice is yours.
For those new to the Civilization saga, Civilization VII – VR begins by allowing you to select a starting age, each designed to offer its own set of challenges and rewards. You can kick things off in the Antiquity Age, laying down the roots of your empire, or delve into the Exploration Age to discover new lands. If you’re more inclined towards advanced strategies, the Modern Age emphasizes technological and industrial advancements.
What really makes this VR version stand out is the immersive ‘War Table.’ This feature allows you to manage your civilization from a perspective that feels much like a tabletop game. Plus, you can zoom in and out, and adjust the table’s tilt for just the right view.
On this dynamic stage, you’ll have the chance to explore, contend with rival civilizations, and face off against both AI and human adversaries. Your diplomatic skills will be key as you navigate options for peace or prepare for battle.
A particularly exciting aspect is that the game will launch with both virtual and mixed reality modes. The mixed reality mode includes a passthrough feature, letting you view your actual surroundings as you play.
Preorders for Sid Meier’s Civilization VII – VR are already live on the Horizon Store for Quest 3 and Quest 3S, with a price tag of $60.
