GOG, known for its digital platform offering classic and DRM-free PC games, has just introduced an exciting new feature called GOG Dreamlist. This tool gives users the opportunity to voice their opinions and vote for the games they want to see released next. It’s a step up from the community voting they’ve done before, now fully transformed into a comprehensive system where fans can recommend games and share personal anecdotes about their favorite titles.
According to GOG’s FAQ section, the company intends to utilize the data from the most popular votes as leverage when negotiating with rights holders to bring those games to their store. While they can’t provide updates on each game’s progress, they are developing a feature that will allow you to keep tabs on which games you’ve supported and when they become available.
Every game on the Dreamlist will have a dedicated page where players can not only vote but also submit stories about their experiences. GOG aims to ensure that these stories are preserved even after a game is released. “We’re working on a solution to migrate Stories to GOG.COM game cards once the game is released: we won’t let them get lost,” the FAQ explains.
In a related effort, GOG has launched its GOG Preservation Program, which is dedicated to keeping older games compatible with modern systems. As of now, there are 102 games involved in this preservation effort, including popular titles like Fallout: New Vegas, Diablo, and Resident Evil 2. Even games that have been delisted, such as Warcraft and Warcraft 2, remain available for download through this initiative. The company envisions a future where every game is a part of this program.
With the introduction of GOG Dreamlist, classic games such as Dino Crisis and Dino Crisis 2 have been added to the store, and they are now part of the Preservation Program as well.
