Bethesda has finally confirmed what fans have been buzzing about for quite some time now: The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion is getting a remastered version. Known for its quirky NPCs and fondly nicknamed for its “potato-faced” characters, this beloved game seems ready to make a comeback with an official reveal slated for tomorrow, April 22, during a special stream.
This news caught nearly everyone off guard. No one could have predicted it, right? Surely, there weren’t whispers starting back in 2023, nor was there a recent leak hinting at this, or even an Xbox support account casually dropping a release date. That would have been too obvious!
But in all seriousness, Bethesda has scheduled a stream for April 22 to officially unveil this remaster. You can catch it live at 4 PM BST, which translates to 11 AM ET, 8 AM PT, and 5 PM CEST, using the video link above. With all these rumors swirling around, it feels pretty likely that we might see the game launch during this event. The stream’s title, ‘All will be revealed…’, adds a playful layer of mystery to the proceedings.
We’ll just have to wait and see how fans react to the changes brought by Virtuos Games and Bethesda to what was once hailed as the best “spooky door closing simulator” of 2006, a game that also featured what many consider the best Elder Scrolls DLC to date. I’m definitely standing my ground on this—Shivering Isles, for the win!
And if you’re not impressed by the remaster, don’t fret. The original Oblivion still exists, ready for you to dive back into its charmingly odd world. Plus, PC players have the ambitious modding project, Skyblivion, which continues to progress and offers its own reinterpretation of the game.
The mod’s project lead expressed their commitment and passion for the project: “This was always about passion right from the start and it still is,” they shared just after hearing about the official remaster leak. “The experiences, connections, and insights I’ve gained are invaluable and ultimately led me to a career in the gaming industry.”
So, will you be diving back into the world of Oblivion with this remaster? Let us know how you feel about returning to the nostalgia of 2006 in the comments below!
