As I pen this on March 28, I’m quite sure I’m not stepping into the dreaded trap of unexpected, late-night announcements that are a nightmare for news writers—think of a 2AM Geoff Keighley showcase clashing with a Nintendo Direct. Yet, NetEase has managed to keep me on edge.
Apparently, and it doesn’t appear to be an elaborate prank, NetEase plans to celebrate April Fools’ Day with quite a spectacle: releasing a Venom twerk emote for Marvel Rivals next week. Yes, you read that correctly. You can probably guess why I’m sitting here with fingers crossed, right?
This quirky Symbiote Boogie emote, set to be available as an in-game reward from 1AM GMT/8PM ET on April 1 through to April 4 (or 8PM ET on April 3), was announced on Marvel Rivals’ official Discord server and tweeted out for the world to see.
“April Fools is just around the corner, Rivals—and the Multiverse’s smoothest symbiote is ready to celebrate,” NetEase enthusiastically shared. “Yes, it’s no joke—complete Galacta’s Cosmic Adventure and collect all 24 rewards to unlock the Symbiote Boogie emote! Because nothing says ‘cosmic chaos’ like watching your hero groove on the battlefield.”
It’s worth mentioning that these details were dropped far enough ahead of April 1 itself. Can you really announce an in-game feature like this and later pull a “gotcha” on some parts of the world while it’s still business as usual for others? Seems unlikely, or at least, it stretches the April Fools’ prerogative to its breaking point, doesn’t it?
We’ve had a sneak peek of this emote prior to April 1, and let’s just say Venom’s jelly-like moves are something to behold. One Discord user hilariously commented, “Venom cake is huge now, Venom mains gonna spam that emote whenever they can,” which sums up the whole scenario pretty well.
