Windows Phone Link has been a standout feature of Windows 11, providing seamless connectivity between your phone and computer. However, with the arrival of the latest Android 15 update, its utility is taking a hit. Google has introduced a new policy that automatically hides sensitive notifications from “untrusted” apps, and this change impacts Phone Link on certain smartphones.
Microsoft is alerting users that after updating to the newest Android version, some notifications, particularly those involving 2FA codes and other confidential details, will no longer be displayed in Phone Link. A notification within the app now reads: “With the latest Android updates, Phone Link no longer shows notifications that contain sensitive information for your protection.”
This update mainly affects users who have installed the Link To Windows app from the Google Play Store. According to Android authority Mishaal Rahman, phones that come with Link To Windows pre-installed might still display these notifications as long as they’re properly configured by Microsoft and the device manufacturer. For instance, Samsung devices can continue syncing these sensitive notifications.
If your phone doesn’t come with Phone Link already on it, though, you’re likely facing some restrictions. This affects users of phones like the Google Pixel, Sony Xperia, or the Nothing Phone. Once you update to Android 15, these devices won’t show 2FA codes and other sensitive notifications through Windows Phone Link.
Phone Link initially launched with Windows 10 as Your Phone, and quickly became an incredibly handy feature that let users access phone notifications, apps, messages, and calls right from their PC. It’s a great way to avoid constantly checking your phone while working on your computer.
Recently, Phone Link added features like using your phone as a webcam for your PC and syncing files between devices directly through File Explorer. Despite its capacities, the new Android 15 update introduces limitations that make Phone Link slightly less functional for many users.
