Speculation abounds regarding the mysterious C button and the big-name titles in development for this next-gen console.
Previously, only a teaser featuring the new Mario Kart marked the reveal of the Switch 2. But with an hour to explore, fans are in for a treat with previews of many new games that will be gracing the console.
This Switch 2 Direct is generating significant excitement among Nintendo enthusiasts. As each reveal happens, we’ll keep this page updated. For those keen to watch the announcements unfold, we’re streaming the presentation live as well.
As the first major announcement, Nintendo unveiled Mario Kart World. First showcased in the initial reveal, this title wows with its extensive vehicle choices and game modes like Grand Prix, the Knockout battle royale, and the Free Roam mode, set in an expansive open world. Nintendo promises more details on April 17, confirming its status as a launch title.
Mystery no more, the C button has been identified as a “Chat” feature, linking directly to Switch 2’s GameChat. Through this, players can converse and catch glimpses of friends’ gameplay on adjustable screens. It’s compatible with the Nintendo Switch 2 Camera, launching alongside the console. While a Switch Online membership will eventually be required, it remains complimentary until March 31, 2026.
Another exciting addition is GameShare, allowing users to play local multiplayer games with just one game copy, a nod to nostalgia for many DS game fans. However, this function will be limited to specific titles.
Since January, we’ve caught glimpses of the Switch 2, but today’s Direct grants an in-depth look at its specs: a 1080p display, 120fps, Joy-Cons that double as mice, dual USB ports, and immersive 3D audio. The console includes 256 GB of internal memory, and its dock, equipped with a fan, supports 4K when connected. Nintendo will be offering a tutorial game, Switch 2 Welcome Tour. While it’s a paid digital offering, it’s intended as a showcase for the device’s unique features.
Expanding storage will require MicroSD Express Cards, and players can transfer data from Switch 1 to this new iteration.
Mark your calendars: The Switch 2 hits shelves on June 5, 2025.
When it comes to games, expect a mix of Switch 2 exclusives, backwards-compatible Switch 1 titles, and “Nintendo Switch 2 Edition” games—improved ports of previous hits. An example is Super Mario Party Jamboree, boasting new modes levered by the console’s hardware. Zelda fans, rejoice; The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom are among the titles getting an upgraded experience. Other games like Kirby and Metroid Prime 4 will also receive unique enhancements for Switch 2.
Another reveal is Drag X Drive, a fresh IP involving 3v3 multiplayer sports with a unique wheelchair twist, showcasing the Joy-Cons’ mouse capabilities.
Highlighting third-party collaborations, Nintendo announced titles like Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition and Hades 2, as well as launch-day headliners Split Fiction and Hogwarts Legacy. Several other beloved franchises such as EA Sports FC and Yakuza 0: Director’s Cut are en route to the Switch 2.
Collaborating with Koei Tecmo, Nintendo is also bringing Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment, slated for a winter release, exploring the prelude to Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
In another exciting addition, the Switch 2 Online + Expansion Pack will feature select GameCube games, available at launch for those with the Expansion Pack subscription. Initial titles include classics like The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker and F-Zero GX. Fans can also expect a GameCube controller that includes the new C button, enhancing the nostalgia factor.
