Microsoft has unveiled an intriguing addition to its Copilot toolset: Copilot Vision, a feature now available in Microsoft Edge across the United States at no cost.
While it’s currently free, users wanting to integrate Copilot Vision into other apps must subscribe to the Copilot Pro plan. Previously, this AI-powered feature was only accessible to those who paid the subscription, but now Edge users have the chance to experience it without charge.
Despite its availability, the number of websites that Copilot Vision supports is still limited to nine, including well-known platforms such as Wikipedia, Amazon, and TripAdvisor. However, rest assured that Microsoft has plans to significantly broaden its reach as more sites come on board.
Microsoft’s AI Chief, Mustafa Suleyman, shared his enthusiasm, saying, “Copilot Vision is now free in Edge—it sees what you see! It’s here to assist without the need for unnecessary explanations or cumbersome copy-pasting.” The AI’s ability to vocalize its observations means that as you browse, it can discuss insights directly with you.
Designed for easy, hands-free use, Copilot Vision works seamlessly with voice commands, allowing you to interact naturally. Just picture yourself browsing recipes on Food & Wine, with Copilot providing helpful hints as you cook. Prefer typing? That works too—submit questions any way you like.
Of course, the introduction of features like this typically stirs up conversations about privacy. Microsoft’s approach to rolling out Copilot Vision may be particularly cautious, learning lessons from the Windows Recall backlash that followed concerns about privacy and security.
Windows Recall itself—an optional feature taking regular PC snapshots—was delayed due to similar concerns. Since then, Microsoft has implemented changes to address potential security issues. Both Windows Recall and Copilot Vision are designed as opt-in functionalities, and reinforcing security measures transparently will likely help reassure even the most skeptical users.
For those eager to remain updated on the latest when it comes to Windows and Xbox, staying plugged into news and updates is crucial. For further insights, you can also check out the video titled “Meet Copilot Vision in Edge” on YouTube for a visual introduction to this feature.
