Minecraft Movie Continues Box Office Success with $80 Million in Second Weekend

It seems the Minecraft movie is unstoppable, raking in another $80 million during its second weekend in theaters across the U.S. And that’s not even counting the throngs of fans buying tickets worldwide, keeping box office numbers impressive wherever the film is shown.

Variety reports that the movie is still reigning at number one in the box office rankings. Although the latest weekend earnings represent a 50% dip from the $163 million debut the film enjoyed, this kind of drop is pretty standard for new releases. In fact, historically speaking, a 50% decrease isn’t too bad at all.

As PBS Frontline mentions, if a movie only loses about 30-40% after its first week, it’s considered a hit. Sure, the Minecraft movie dropped a bit more with its 50%, but given its record-setting start, there’s no real worry about its commercial performance.
