Bungie has finally unveiled some exciting details about its upcoming extraction shooter, Marathon, offering us a solid glimpse into its gameplay. The game is set to launch on the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S on September 23rd, 2025.
In the game, you pick your Runner—these are cybernetic mercenaries, each boasting unique abilities. You’ll team up with up to two other players, forming a squad to take on a variety of challenges. You’ll face off against AI security forces that are anything but friendly and square up against rival teams of Runners. As you navigate through the chaos, you’ll gather an arsenal of weapons, implants, and gear. If you make it out alive, you get to keep everything you’ve acquired to use in future missions.
When you dive into a zone with your team, the mission is clear: loot to your heart’s content and make it back in one piece. The obstacles are plenty—from relentless AI security to competing teams, each with their own agenda. For those who love a good challenge, you can fly solo, tackling everything on your own and walking away with all the loot—if you’re up to it.
