Snail Games, the team behind Ark: Aquatica, has pointed fingers at their marketing department for the controversial AI-driven trailer that recently surfaced.
Lead game designer Matt Kohl shared with Aftermath that the intriguing animation featured in the trailer was crafted using artificial intelligence. Surprisingly, Kohl expressed his puzzlement over the marketing team’s decision to proceed with this approach.
“That trailer was a product of our marketing department’s initiative,” Kohl explained.
“They utilized our assets and fed them through an AI program to bring them to life. Our development team wasn’t involved in this, and we’ve strictly avoided using AI in the actual development of Aquatica.”
The latest trailer for Ark: Aquatica, which is an expansion for Ark: Survival Evolved, was unveiled during the Game Developers Conference (GDC). The response was heated, with one viewer commenting, “This is disgusting and you should be ashamed of yourselves.”
In light of the backlash, Studio Wildcard, the creators of Ark: Survival Evolved, took to Twitter to clarify their distance from the project.
