The curtain is set to fall on the online multiplayer mode of the classic VR hit, Arizona Sunshine, with the feature slated to end this coming July. The decision stems from Unity’s move to discontinue the UNet Service, which has been the backbone of the game’s online play since it launched in 2016.
Arizona Sunshine made waves in the VR gaming scene, providing a multiplayer experience that has entertained players for nearly a decade. However, Vertigo Games, the studio behind this popular title, has announced that as of July 1, 2025, players will no longer be able to enjoy the multiplayer mode online. This decision follows the planned discontinuation of UNet, Unity’s original multiplayer networking framework. For those who may need a refresher, UNet was the go-to for developers looking to create networked games using Unity but has been on the chopping block since 2019. Unity’s updated documentation recently confirmed that after July 7, 2025, developers will no longer have access to UNet services, which nudged Vertigo to make this call.
The good news for fans of the game is that the end of multiplayer support won’t affect the solo campaign of Arizona Sunshine. Moreover, players can breathe easy knowing that the multiplayer capabilities for Arizona Sunshine Remake and its sequel, Arizona Sunshine 2, remain intact. To sweeten the current deal, Vertigo is offering a $10 upgrade path for those who own the original game on Quest, PlayStation, or Steam, allowing players to enjoy improvements and new features on the same platform.
