AMD has put to rest the swirling speculations about a potential Radeon RX 9070 XT GPU featuring 32 GB of memory.
In a recent response by Frank Azor, AMD squashed the rumors of this supposed 32 GB GPU. Some of you may recall hearing a murmur from a leaker on Chiphell, suggesting a 32 GB version of the RX 9070 XT was in the works, slated for release this year, and that it would belong to the ‘Gaming’ series rather than the PRO lineup.
However, these claims have been dismissed. In a reply to Techpowerup’s X post, Frank Azor, a prominent figure at AMD, clearly stated that a 32 GB edition of the card is not in the pipeline:
“No, the 9070 XT card is not coming in 32 GB capacity,” Azor clarified in a tweet dated February 13, 2025.
As it stands, the Radeon RX 9070 XT is set to ship with 16 GB of GDDR6 VRAM. Given the GPU’s current specifications, a 32 GB version would likely yield minimal gains in gaming performance, despite speculation that such a version might benefit AI applications.
So far, AMD hasn’t ventured into the realm of 32 GB gaming GPUs. In reality, equipping a mid-to-upper tier GPU like the RX 9070 XT with such a large memory capacity may not be practical or beneficial. As for the RDNA 4 line-up, it makes sense to maintain 16 GB as the upper limit for their flagship Navi 48-based card, the RX 9070 XT.
Other GPUs, such as the RX 9070 and those based on Navi 44, are expected to offer lower specifications and performance. AMD has officially stated that the RX 9000 series will be unveiled on February 28th. This announcement will provide concrete details on specifications, pricing, and in-house performance metrics for these GPUs.
Following this, the retail release is anticipated in early March, coinciding with NVIDIA’s expected launch of the GeForce RTX 5070 GPU. Frank Azor has previously remarked that AMD’s 70-series will face off against NVIDIA’s 70-series cards, and many are eager to see how the RX 9070 XT or 9070 will measure up against the RTX 5070 Ti or RX 5070 in the marketplace.
