This past Sunday, the Super Bowl had more than just touchdowns and tackles—it also had Marvel fans buzzing. The much-anticipated new trailer for the upcoming Thunderbolts movie made its grand debut, thanks to Marvel splashing some serious cash.
With just three months to go before Thunderbolts hits theaters, there’s still a shroud of mystery around the film’s plot. Sure, a teaser dropped last September, but it kept things close to the chest. Now, the latest trailer is here, offering a few tidbits, though still not much to hang our hats on. For starters, we get a fleeting glimpse of Sentry, played by Lewis Pullman. If that name rings a bell, he’s the “Bob” you saw in the first trailer—Marvel’s clever ploy, perhaps.
You can catch this on YouTube.
In this new sneak peek, Sentry’s appearances are short and sweet, just showcasing his superpowers against a motley crew of anti-heroes and average folks. Is it definitely him? Unless Marvel’s throwing another curveball by introducing another villain, that seems to be who we’re seeing. Given that Sentry is typically a hero with his own arch-nemesis, the Void, the dark undertones in the trailer could very well hint at the Void’s presence. Plus, there are still a couple of cast members whose roles remain under wraps, fueling the speculation fire.
If you’re curious about the official storyline, here it is: Marvel Studios brings together Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan), Red Guardian (David Harbour), Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen), Taskmaster (Olga Kurylenko), and John Walker (Wyatt Russell) for a wild ride. This unlikely group of anti-heroes falls into a trap set by Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus). They must navigate a perilous mission, confronting the shadows of their pasts. Will they unravel amidst chaos, or will they find redemption and unite as a formidable force before time runs out?
There’s still a lot left to the imagination, but mark your calendars—Thunderbolts is set to light up the big screen on May 2.
