You read that right—the PlayStation Network (PSN) is down for the count. Unfortunately, this means that if you’re looking to jump online with your PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 5, you’ll need to put those plans on hold for now.
As of this moment, the only official word we have comes from the Ask PlayStation Japan Twitter account. They’ve issued a statement on the predicament (which I’ve translated into English using Twitter’s handy tool), saying:
“Currently, the PlayStation™ Network (including the PlayStation® Store) might not be accessible. We genuinely apologize for this inconvenience to our customers. We’re on the case, investigating the problem and working hard to get everything back up and running, so we appreciate your patience.”
In other words, Sony is fully aware of the issue, but there’s no ETA on when service will be restored. All we can really do is wait it out. It’s particularly bad timing since it’s the weekend—prime gaming hours for many. Plus, the Monster Hunter Wilds Open beta is live, leaving PlayStation users frustrated as Xbox and PC gamers dive in without a hitch. And even if Wilds isn’t your thing, weekends are when people finally get a breather from work to indulge in some gaming relaxation. Fingers crossed this outage wraps up soon!
