Snap Offers Discounted Spectacles AR Glasses for Students and Teachers

Snap, the creative minds behind Snapchat, are shaking things up by offering their latest Spectacles AR Glasses at a reduced price for students and teachers. They’ve introduced a special educational discount that slashes the initial $1,200 price tag by half.

These fifth-generation Spectacles, launched in September 2024 and known as Spectacles ’24, are originally offered primarily to developers. They come with a hefty price of $100 per month under a one-year commitment plan.

However, Snap’s latest AR innovation brings several enhancements over the previous fourth-generation model from 2021. These improvements include a wider field of view, sharper resolution, the introduction of hand-tracking, and a revamped software system. Yet, despite these advancements, the high price point seemed to pose a challenge for students and educators eager to explore and develop AR applications.

To address this, Snap has unveiled a new student discount, effectively halving the cost. At $49.50 monthly, with a minimum term of 12 months, users can enjoy these cutting-edge spectacles. Alternatively, there’s an option for a one-time payment of $594, covering the first year, with the same monthly fee thereafter for continued use.

To snag this deal, folks need an .edu email address or another email from a recognized educational institution. This offer isn’t confined to just one corner of the world. Students and teachers in various regions such as the US, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Austria, and the Netherlands are eligible for this offer.
