It looks like Helldivers 2 is now back on the Steam shelf for some regions where it was previously unavailable, thanks to last year’s PlayStation Network account linking issue.
To give you a quick recap: in April last year, Sony decided to require players to link their PSN accounts to access the PC version of Helldivers 2. Unsurprisingly, this didn’t sit well with many gamers, leading to a wave of criticism and review bombing. In response, Sony backtracked on the decision. However, the game still couldn’t be purchased in over 170 countries, mostly in regions where PSN isn’t operational, making account creation an impossibility.
Thankfully, it seems a recent update has re-opened access to a number of these territories and islands, as spotted by vigilant players on SteamDB. The update shows that blocks have been lifted from a selection of smaller islands and territories, including:
– Bonaire/Sint Eustatius/Saba
– Falkland Islands (Malvinas)
– South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands
– Heard and McDonald Islands
– British Indian Ocean Territory
– Saint Pierre and Miquelon
– Sint Maarten (Dutch part)
– French Southern Territories
One user, known as DarthSet, mentioned on Reddit that they can now see the game on Steam from their location in the Channel Islands. They shared, “It was blocked previously. I’ve been here from the start, but couldn’t access the store page since the ban.”
The Helldivers 2 community is buzzing with excitement over these changes, even though many countries are still on the restriction list. The discussion is filled with players welcoming DarthSet back and joking about their hiatus from the game.
If you’re in one of these newly unblocked spots, are you gearing up to dive back into the Galactic War? We’d love to hear from you!
