Diablo 4 fans, brace yourselves! The new season, titled Season of Witchcraft, is here to enchant your gaming experience. Blizzard has dropped all the details we were eagerly anticipating, and there’s a lot to unpack.
Mark your calendars for Tuesday, January 21. That’s when Season of Witchcraft kicks off, right as Season 6 wraps up. This season, you’ll find yourself entangled in the mysteries of the Three of Whispers, which have somehow lost a few heads. Your job? Hunt them down and halt their malevolent spread.
Living up to its mystical name, this season introduces a slew of witchy powers. There are 25 potent abilities scattered across three witchcraft schools: Eldritch, Psyche, and Growth & Decay. And there’s a mysterious fourth category: Lost powers. Nobody, not even the Coven, knows much about them. These operate similarly to Season 2’s Vampiric Powers, with a convenient screen to manage them all.
The intrigue doesn’t stop there — unlocking these elusive Lost powers requires some extra effort. They’ll only reveal themselves at Forgotten Altars, which appear randomly in dungeons. If you’re aiming for those rare abilities, get ready to explore.
This season, the Coven will guide you on your quest, assisting in earning these new powers and gaining the Tree of Whispers’ trust. As expected, there’s fresh faction reputation to grind out, just as in previous seasons.
Prepare to face the Headrotten, your arch-nemesis for the season. They wander every corner of Sanctuary, and the main quest will have you pursuing these foes. You’ll stumble upon them during other activities too. Simply collecting Heads will earn you Restless Rot, a key part of unlocking Witchcraft Powers and winning the Coven’s allegiance.
The game introduces Headhunt zones, where Headrotten sightings are frequent. Early grind should focus here as it links directly to Whisper bounties. Additionally, you’ll find emissaries like the Raven, to deliver Whisper rewards and save trips to the Tree.
Expect dynamic encounters in Headhunt zones with Exposed Roots, which might reveal an Uprooted Cocoon. This can summon bosses and, naturally, you’ll be eager to conquer these Headrotten Bosses.
Since Season 7 revolves heavily around the Tree of Whispers, it’s no surprise that its bounties are juiced up. An added incentive is the potential reward of an Ancestral Collection with a guaranteed Ancestral item. Blizzard has streamlined Whisper flow and expanded the surrounding town, simplifying service access and Whisper turnover.
Crafting is also making a return, with craftable occult gems exclusive to the season. Sourced from Whispers and Fugitive Heads, these gems come loaded with powerful affixes designed to complement your Witchcraft Powers.
Even if seasonal themes aren’t your thing, updates to the Eternal Realm will still impact all players. Look forward to the Armory, which facilitates easy build swaps, along with fresh Uniques and Legendary Aspects.
Character abilities are seeing a boost, as all classes find their Ultimate skills enhanced and class-specific quests simplified. For those holding the Vessel of Hatred, there are new Runes and updates to existing ones.
