Earlier today, well-known industry insider NateDrake shared some surprising news: Halo: The Master Chief Collection, a staple for Xbox console exclusives, is set to make its way to the PS5 in 2025. But that’s not the only game making the leap to Sony’s platform this year.
In a fresh update, Jez Corden from Windows Central has added fuel to the fire by suggesting several major Xbox exclusives are headed to the PS5. Among them are some heavy hitters: Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2, Age of Mythology, and specifically, Gears of War: Ultimate Edition. Word is these titles could also be landing on the PS5 come 2025.
Adding more to the buzz, NateDrake hinted that alongside Halo: The Master Chief Collection, Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 is also set for a PS5 release this year. On the flip side, he speculates that Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Rebirth could find their way onto Xbox consoles by 2025 and 2026 respectively. Corden seems optimistic about Microsoft’s year, mentioning the potential for significant sales growth thanks to these developments.
“If everything checks out — and remember, rumors should always be taken with skepticism since plans can shift — then Microsoft might just see content-driven revenue like never before,” Corden explained. “They’re sitting on a mountain of first-party content in development, with even more unannounced titles rumored for the 2025 Xbox Showcase, an event that’s usually held in June.”
He went on to say, “For many titles, you’ll see PlayStation and Nintendo Switch versions either available at launch or shortly thereafter. The studios working on these games are poised to benefit from the kind of income and investment that could take them to the next level.”
Whispers about Gears of War crossing over to PlayStation have been circulating since early last year.
Originally landing on the Xbox 360 back in 2006, Gears of War quickly became one of the flagship franchises for Xbox. In 2015, the series got a visual upgrade with the release of Gears of War: Ultimate Edition, which refreshed its graphics for old and new fans alike.
It’s becoming increasingly common for Xbox titles to blur the lines and make a jump to the PS5. Games such as Pentiment and Sea of Thieves have already made the crossover, with Indiana Jones and the Great Circle expected soon. The potential move of big names like Gears of War and Halo to PlayStation, however, is still notably significant due to their strong ties to the Xbox brand. But remember, these are still just rumors. We’ll have to wait for official announcements to know for sure.
