Minecraft TTRPG in Development by Marvel Multiverse Writer Matt Forbeck

Renowned New York Times bestselling author, Matt Forbeck, who also spearheaded the design of the Marvel Multiverse RPG, has teamed up with his son, Marty, to bring an exciting new tabletop adventure to life within the Minecraft universe. Now open for pre-orders, “Minecraft: Roll for Adventure: The Temple of the Charged Creeper” aims to weave the beloved elements of Minecraft’s open-world creativity into a set of engaging and easy-to-grasp role-playing rules.

Despite the anticipation surrounding this release, publisher Penguin Random House has maintained a bit of mystery by not detailing the mechanics—a common approach with pre-orders of major intellectual property (IP) tabletop games. These illagers made their first significant appearance as the villains in Forbeck’s earlier work, “Minecraft Dungeons: The Rise of the Arch-Illager.” Much like a classic Dungeons & Dragons mission, your task is to assist the village by uncovering and eradicating the havoc-wreaking Temple of the Charged Creeper.

Though Minecraft has seen collaborations with Dungeons & Dragons before—such as the young player-oriented “Lightning Keep” adventure—this particular quest is a unique creation from the Forbecks. Matt Forbeck brings a wealth of experience as both a writer and game designer, with credentials that include work on franchises like D&D, Halo, and Life is Strange, as well as his original projects. His impressive background adds a compelling allure to the project, keeping fans guessing until the book’s release in July 2025 to see how it resonates with both Minecraft aficionados and tabletop enthusiasts.
