Pico 4 Ultra is stepping into the spotlight with an enticing Black Friday offer from ByteDance that bundles Pico Motion Trackers, three popular games, and one month of VRChat Plus. This deal, which runs until December 2, is turning heads in the VR community.
The games included are none other than Blade & Sorcery: Nomad, Pistol Whip, and Synth Riders—an enticing lineup for any VR enthusiast. Normally priced at €90/£80, the Pico Motion Trackers are designed to enhance your virtual experience by strapping onto your ankles for leg tracking in games that support such a feature, like Blade & Sorcery: Nomad and VRChat. Meta has cautiously decided to sit this one out unless these trackers become a runaway success.
If you’re interested, this bundle is up for grabs wherever the Pico 4 Ultra is available, although, at the moment, that sadly leaves out North America.
Having had the opportunity to get up close and personal with the Pico 4 Ultra and its Motion Trackers, our impressions reveal some interesting comparisons to the Meta Quest 3. ByteDance is positioning the Pico 4 Ultra as a more premium choice, boasting 4GB more RAM, higher resolution passthrough, and improvements in both charging speed and battery life.
In terms of user experience, the headset impressed us with its comfort and largely superior passthrough capabilities compared to the Quest 3. However, it does reveal some shortcomings, particularly with its lenses which, while superior to those in the Quest 3S, do not measure up to Quest 3.
However, when we shift our focus to the content, ByteDance seems to be recalibrating their strategy. Unlike their efforts with the Pico 4, the company is dialing back its emphasis on VR gaming. They’ve scrapped a planned Beat Saber rival, passed their planned exclusive, Just Dance VR, over to Meta, and have yet to announce any significant new exclusive titles. While there are plenty of Quest games available on the Pico Store, the notable omissions are just as telling. ByteDance appears to be channeling their energy into establishing Pico OS as a formidable player in spatial computing, reportedly gearing up to compete with Apple’s Vision Pro.
That said, the Black Friday deal is hard to pass up for anyone considering a Pico 4 Ultra. The added feature of leg tracking through the Pico Motion Trackers is a distinct bonus that Meta’s standalone platform doesn’t offer, making it an attractive choice for VR users looking to elevate their experience.
