Sony is stepping up its game with a significant new update to the PlayStation Portal, their remote play device, by adding cloud streaming capabilities. However, for now, this exciting feature is only available in a beta version and access is limited.
Hiromi Wakai, Sony’s VP of product management, shared the news on the PlayStation Blog. The update promises not only better audio performance for the peripheral but also invites selected PS5 games to beta test the cloud streaming service.
The PlayStation Plus Game Catalog features over 120 games participating in this trial. Players can expect to dive into notable first-party games like Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart, Ghost of Tsushima, and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, along with popular third-party games such as Dave the Diver.
It’s exciting to know that game streaming can reach up to 1080p at 60 frames per second. Of course, this is contingent on both the specific game and the quality of your internet connection. A point to remember, though, is that to utilize this cloud streaming feature, you must be a Premium tier subscriber to PS Plus.
In essence, this development marks a promising move forward and aligns more closely with the expectations critics had set for the PlayStation Portal. That said, while Sony continues to deliver solid sales figures for the peripheral, they are clearly eager to enhance its capabilities.
