Valve has decided not to launch a brand-new version of the Steam Deck just yet, but they are bringing out an exciting new spin on their popular handheld gaming device. Enter the “Steam Deck OLED: Limited Edition White,” set to catch eyes with its sleek look. This version keeps the same specifications as the existing 1TB model, but you’ll notice a slight bump in price—the white OLED model will hit the shelves at $679, a $30 increase over the standard. Mark your calendars because it’s slated for release next week, on Monday, November 18.
The Limited Edition White Deck doesn’t just look sharp in its white and gray color scheme. It’s also packaged with a white carrying case and a microfiber cleaning cloth, adding some thoughtful touches for owners to keep their new gadget in good shape.
This isn’t Valve’s first foray into color experimentation. They previously launched the Steam Deck OLED with a limited edition smoky translucent shell, which flew off the shelves despite some aesthetic cracking issues. For this new white variant, Valve assures worldwide availability, including the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Europe, Australia, Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and South Korea via their partner, Komodo. They are planning to distribute stock fairly across these regions.
To keep scalpers at bay, Valve has put a limit in place—one white Steam Deck per account. Plus, your Steam account will need to show at least one purchase made before November 2024 to qualify.
In talking to the press, Valve mentioned that this second limited offering will serve as a bit of an experiment to gauge interest in various colors: “We’re curious to see what the response is, and will use what we learn to inform future decisions about any potential new color variants down the line.”
If you’re not set on getting your hands on the official white version, there’s good news. Several companies, like Jsaux and dbrand, offer backplates or skins that can provide a similar aesthetic. But for those wanting the official touch, this limited edition variant is the way to go—at least until supplies run out.
Valve also hinted at ongoing developments concerning the future of the Deck and other hardware plans, suggesting that this color release isn’t the end of their ambitions. Personally, the photos remind me of a nostalgic mix between a Wii U and an iPod, which might just be enough to tempt current owners to upgrade.
So, if this fresh look piques your interest, Monday, November 18, is your chance to snag one.
